New Online Store

ShopHutchinsonMN.net

New this year to our ShopHutchinsonMN.com website is an online store.

Many store owners would like to explore online sales . . . but are reluctant to invest the money in their own online storefront.

The concept of the online store is that each participating member is allowed to place items in the store for sale.

This allows our local stores an easy and convenient way for them to sell their products online.

This addition to our website is only one of many!

We are adding many new features to benefit both our users and members. Go to ShopHutchinsonMn.com to check out our new website. (Coming in early January, 2009)

Engage Your Customers!

At a time when consumers are watching every dollar they spend, marketers need to engage potential customers to get and keep their attention.

An engaged customer Knows who you are and exactly what you have to offer them. They have developed a connection of genuine interest in what you have to say.

Not every customer is willing to be engaged, so concentrate on those that are. Identify people who are willing to interact regularly with your website and email campaigns, then determine how to reach them.

You may want to send out a brief survey and ask what they are looking for from you. Scrutinize offers you receive to see what it is the sender thinks you are looking for. You could even provide a feedback loop by allowing your customers to post customer reviews on your website, or encouraging them to post about you on your favorite networking website.

Your goal is to provide timely and relevant offers that meet the needs of your customers. Do this and they will be engaged.

How to Engage Your Customers With Email

Make a good first impression: Develop an e-mail campaign that allows you to communicate with your customers on a regular basis. Carefully craft everything you do to engage your customers.

  • Start out right: As soon as someone has requested to be included in your mailing communicate with them.

Begin a welcome campaign where you contact them 3 times within the first two weeks. Research indicates that their interest begins to waiver within the first two weeks.
    • Start by welcoming them aboard within the first 24 hours and reminding them that they opted in to your mailer.
    • Follow up with two more offers before the end of the first two weeks.

Beginning with a welcome series helps to secure your brand in their minds and lays the groundwork for their expectations of seeing your emails in their inbox.

Watch your timing: Send your email when they are most likely to view them and ultimately most likely to respond.

  • Many people set time aside to focus and deal with email. if an email message is received during the other parts of the day, it is likely that they will not give it much attention before disposing of it.
  • A greatly effective way to execute your mailings is to send the mailer when it is best for each individual. Divide your mailing into groups according to the preferred time of day to send them.

Track and Improve: Keep track of what it is you are doing, evaluate your success and your failures.

  • Identify that which is successful for you and keep it up!
  • Use tools like surveys, customer reviews and honest observations to highlight those things you need to do better, then do them better.
    • Talk to the people who have fallen out of your circle, they can tell you best how you fell short of engaging them.
    • Find out if you delivered too often, not often enough, or did you make offers that had little value?

Make Your Website Engaging

Don't forget to allow your customers to develop an attachment to your website. Take advantage of the opportunities that are there.

  • Present information about your products and services, many people research online before buying in person.
    • Answer a very important question; Why should they buy from you?
  • Ad a blog: Allow your customers a way to interact with you and other customers.
  • Ad aspects of Customer Service. Provide customers access into a secure area to:
    • Allow access to special features only your customers are allowed to have.
    • Check account status/change account settings
    • Submit online support tickets
    • Start a Support Forum as a way to provide additional customer service. This is a unique way for customers to share with each other helpful tips and more!
  • Provide information on how to buy your products or services.
    • Phone numbers
    • Online forms
    • Addresses
    • Maps

Engage your customers, get them interested and keep their attention. Even in a tough market their are opportunities; step forward and take advantage of them.

Tip of the Month!

Replace Your Long Term Marketing Message With Short Term!

When the going gets tough, the tough adapt! Many marketing strategies have traditionally concentrated on long term recognition and branding as well as long term benefits to make the sale.

With the economy changing as it has, perhaps you should consider concentrating on short term messaging as a long term strategy. Highlight immediate benefits, many consumers are now focusing short term and are not looking too far into the future.

  1. Shorten Your Time Horizon: Concentrate on the benefits and savings your customers can count on now!
  2. Sales, not growth: Focus on creating sales immediately to help your cashflow now, continue some messaging geared toward the future . . . but realize that you must cover your expenses now to be here later.
  3. Use Loss Leaders Wisely: Your customers are concerned about their own cash flow as well. Take advantage of the fact that they will be reconsidering their current relationships with your competitors. Lead out with loss leaders or introductory pricing.

Keep on marketing, but adjust your messaging to work effectively in today's market!
